HVLS Fans & Evaporative Air Cooler Combination: A New Solution for Ventilation and Cooling in Large Spaces

Sep 11, 2026

For ventilation and cooling renovation of large spaces such as workshops, stadiums and open areas, conventional standalone cooling equipment has obvious drawbacks, failing to balance cooling performance, operating cost, aesthetics and full-area coverage. The combined system of HVLS fans and evaporative air coolers overcomes limitations of single units, delivering an efficient, energy-saving and practical solution suitable for both indoor and outdoor large spaces.

1. Main Drawbacks of Standalone Equipment

Evaporative air coolers excel in energy efficiency, consuming only 20% of the power used by traditional central air conditioners. However, conventional air coolers require ceiling ductwork, which raises installation costs, occupies overhead space, compromises aesthetics, and only provides spot cooling instead of full-space coverage.

HVLS industrial fans feature high airflow at low velocity. A single fan can cover over 1,000 m² and accelerate air circulation. Nevertheless, HVLS fans cannot reduce air temperature. In hot summer, air movement alone cannot relieve intense heat, resulting in poor cooling comfort.

2. Working Principle of the Combined System

This integrated solution combines the strengths of both devices to achieve targeted cooling and full-space ventilation. The evaporative air cooler generates cool fresh air, while the HVLS fan delivers high-volume low-speed airflow to distribute cool air evenly across the entire area. It eliminates the pain points of localized cooling and obstructive ducts for standalone coolers, as well as the zero-cooling limitation of HVLS fans, creating a comfortable environment with minimal energy consumption and cost.

3. Core Advantages of the Combined System

Compared with single equipment, the combined system offers improved practicality, cost performance and adaptability:

  1. Uniform full-space cooling for better comfort: Cool air spreads to every corner via HVLS fans with gentle low-speed airflow, eliminating temperature stratification.
  2. Low noise and energy efficiency for long-term operation: The system retains the air cooler’s ultra-low power consumption, far more efficient than conventional air conditioning. HVLS fans supply ample airflow with low noise, ideal for workshops, gymnasiums, shopping malls and other occupied spaces.
  3. No ductwork required: Complex ceiling ducts are eliminated, cutting equipment and installation expenses. No overhead space is occupied, and the simple structure enables easy cleaning and maintenance to reduce long-term operating costs.
  4. Flexible operation for year-round use: The system supports independent or combined operation. In hot summer, both units run together for powerful cooling and air circulation. In mild spring and autumn, the HVLS fan can operate alone for ventilation, maximizing equipment utilization.

4. Application Scenarios

The versatile system works for a wide range of indoor and outdoor large spaces, including manufacturing workshops, logistics warehouses, sports stadiums, exhibition halls, outdoor work zones and large waiting halls. It is one of the most cost-effective high-efficiency cooling and ventilation options for large venues.
